In this day and age, pornography and the over-sexualization of children and women seem to be everywhere and unavoidable. It is not uncommon to feel concerned or afraid that the people you love the most are silently struggling with an addiction to pornography or sex. Because of the stigmatization of addiction, it can be incredibly difficult for those who are struggling to disclose their addiction and seek out help. As such, it is important now more than ever to make sure you’re loved ones know that you are a source of support for them and that you love and acceptance them no matter what.
Because violent and addictive pornography has become increasingly accessible, anyone can be susceptible to this addiction, including your child, your partner, your siblings, and even your friends. If you feel that your loved one might be struggling with an addiction to pornography, the first sign is trying to identify the problem. An important first step a definition–pornography addiction is “a behavioral disorder where an individual compulsively watches porn.” Next, here are some indicators that can help you in identifying whether your loved one is struggling with this addiction:
>You have found them watching pornography more than several times a week.
>When you bring up the subject, they lash out or hide it.
>Them seem to have lost their sex drive or sense of attraction to you.
>Your loved one is more demanding in the bedroom.
>They are falling behind on other responsibilities, at home or at work.
