All couples have conflicts. The difference between happy and unhappy couples is whether they have a healthy process of repair. Everett specializes in helping couples develop that repair process. The way many couples argue leaves them feeling frustrated, distant, and unfulfilled instead of feeling resolved and reconnected. Eventually they stop talking because it just turns into a fight. Approaching couples from an attachment perspective he helps couples experience the closeness and connection they desire. The process entails identifying their negative patterns, stop blaming each other and learn how to find more effective ways to respond to each other.
Pornography & Sex Addiction
Everett has worked a lot with individuals and couples dealing with sexual issues including pornography, affairs, online behaviors, and other problematic sexual behaviors. For 13 years he worked at an Intensive Outpatient Treatment Center that specialized in treating such behaviors. He has received training as a sex addiction therapist from Patrick Carnes. In addition, he works with couples dealing with physical intimacy issues in their marriage which often creates a lot of frustration and distance.
Men in Therapy
Everett has a unique focus in working with men who are often skeptical about therapy. Often men will use work, alcohol, sex, pornography, money, gambling, or other compulsive/addictive behaviors to deal with feelings or stress. These behaviors can cause serious problems in their marriage. He helps couples connect to each other instead of escaping to unhealthy behaviors that drive them further apart.
Trauma and Mindfulness
Everett also works with individuals dealing with trauma issues or struggling with depression and anxiety. He uses a variety of techniques including mindfulness and EMDR. He has completed several trainings in treating trauma and is a Certified EMDR Therapist.
