Sixto Romero

My focus for our therapy sessions is to help you identify your
strengths and to build greater resilience to improve your overall
quality of life.  We will work collaboratively towards achieving
mutually agreed-upon goals and equip you with the skills you need to
maintain your progress after therapy.

I have worked with an adolescent treatment center where I assisted adolescents in developing healthy and reasonable goals. I understand adolescents can be a difficult and confusing times, which could lead to unhealthy behavior. I focus on helping youth feel understood and empowered to help get control of their story and feelings. My goal is to help children and parents understand and support each other and strengthen the family system.

Individual Therapy

Sometimes we get stuck in patterns of thinking that may lead to an increase in stress, frustration, anxiety, or even depression.  When this happens, it can feel like most days of your personal or professional life are a struggle.  Managing or attempting to resolve these issues on your own may feel overwhelming.  Once these patterns have been brought to light, we can begin to develop different coping skills and communication tools.  One of my greatest joys is guiding my clients through this process of self-realization as they discover their many strengths and positive qualities.  Therapy is not always an easy process, but I will guide you through as you work to go within, learn to connect with others and create your ideal life.

Couples Therapy

I enjoy working with all kinds of couples; cohabitating, engaged, happy, struggling or separating.  We all have expectations of what our closest relationships should look or feel like.  For engaged couples, therapy can mean learning how to understand, relate, and genuinely communicate with each other.  For happy couples, therapy can include deepening your relationship and maintaining the quality of your relationship.  However, when there is a breakdown of trust, communication, or intimacy, it can feel like your relationship is in turmoil or like the spark is lost.  Couples therapy can be a place to work on repairing your relationship or understanding what your future partnership may look like.  Together we can uncover unhealthy patterns and begin to change them.  We can also work on understanding and expressing deep emotions while relieving blame and shame.

Family Therapy

Our family relationships are full of complexities, many levels of interactions, and a unique history.  Families can develop patterns of communication and behavior that can influence every individual in the system.  We also go through many stages and adjustments as families, including marriage, blending families, separation, co-parenting, and loss.  These periods can be especially challenging for the children or teens in the family.  In family therapy, we can work to identify the underlying causes of your problems or contentions disrupting your family’s equilibrium.  Through this process, you will be able to increase awareness of how each family member feels, gain insight into each individual’s experience, and explore possible solutions to your family’s current problems.

Education and Background

I am a supervised clinician and finishing my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Arizona State University.  I also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Human Development from ASU.  I combine my passion for Family Development and the impact of life changes with my experience working with adolescents.  I am dedicated to drawing on the most current research and evidence-based approaches to help my clients accomplish their treatment goals.
