New Years Resolutions and Goals

Now that we’ve settled into 2024, we wanted to check in and see how your year is going so far. Did you set goals a few weeks ago? Maybe a resolution or two? Have you completely forgotten about it now that we’ve entered March? If you have, don’t stress about it. Recalibrate. You may now be realizing that those goals weren’t the best fit or maybe too ambitious? Here are some tips from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to help jumpstart
your 2024 goals:

  1. Pick a goal that motivates you: No one knows you better than yourself. Focus on goals that really inspire you and are authentic to milestones you want to achieve.
  2. Break down your bigger goals into smaller, more manageable goals: Don’t get overwhelmed by your new goals. Baby steps are the key to sticking with something and making goals more attainable. 1% better each day, over time, can make a huge difference weeks and months from now.
  3. Focus on progress, not perfection: If you stumble at the beginning, or heck if you stumble months from now, do your best to not get discouraged. Tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start for anything you set your mind to.
  4. Lean on others for support or motivation: Have people in your corner that want the best for you and share your goals with them. Ask them to join you in your goals and hold each other accountable.
  5. Know when to ask for help: Therapy is a fantastic support tool through any changes in your life. Give yourself a safety net of skills to help guide you in your new goals.

SAMHSA is a terrific resource for support if your 2024 goals include self-improvement whether it’s improving your mental health or finally kicking a substance you don’t wish to carry into your future.
